MEMBERSHIP HISTORY
The club flourished and by 1914 there were 1300 members. By the '60s and '70s membership was in decline for various reasons, and criticisms prevailed about the all-male membership. Although not in any way politically affiliated, in fact discussion of politics and religion is a breach of rules, there exists a democracy within the club and only members sanction constitutional changes. If they want the club to be totally open, they will decide.
Nowadays there is a complete cross section of membership, and for the first time in six years numbers are on the increase.
